Help Promising New Writers Develop Their Gift

Clarion West is an organization run primarily by volunteers, for volunteers.

The writers who attend the workshop give up six weeks of their lives, taking time off from work and family (sometimes even quitting their jobs) in order to concentrate on their writing. And they pay for the­ privilege.­ Fortunately, there is some financial assistance available, thanks to the Susan Petrey Fund, the Octavia E. Butler Memorial Scholarship, ReadAssist, the Gordon R. Dickson Memorial Scholarship, the Alma Alexander Scholarship, the Do­nald and Elsie Wolheim Scholars­hip (for New York residents), and our own full and partial scholarships, funded by our charity auctions.

But tuition generates only half the money we need to run the workshop each year. Much of the rest of it is made up through the generosity of people who become members of Clarion West, or simply donate directly via PayPal or mail a check to the address below. Clarion West is a non-profit organization, and donations are tax-deductible.

What do we do with the money? We use it to run the organization, keep the tuition as low as possible, and supplement the scholarship fund for students who would not otherwise be able to attend. Our two administrators each receive a modest part-time salary.

Donations of any size are gratefully accepted. If your employer will match your donation, please include your company's matching-funds form with your donation.

Memberships are $20 for individuals, $30 for households; the benefits include a subscription to the newsletter, early notice of CW events, and invitations to the summer parties in Seattle, as well as the right to vote on issues and elections at the annual General Meeting.
