Excerpt:
The whole district lay panting in the heat, the burning sky clapped tight overhead like the lid of a tandoor oven. Lean goats stumbled down the narrow alleyways, udders hanging slack and dry beneath them; beggars cried for water in every village. Dust-devils swept over baked clay and through the dry weeds, whistling and shrieking. Hot sand blew into the eyes of torpid bullocks as they leaned into the yoke, whips snapping over their bony backs. A single stream crept along the valley floor, shrunken and muddy, and women stood ankle deep in its shallows, beating their laundry against rocks that rippled and danced in the sun.
Bio:
I attended the Clarion West Writer’s Workshop the summer of 1990; within a year I made my first professional sale and have never looked back. My fiction and poetry have been published in Fantasy and Science Fiction magazine, H.P. Lovecraft’s Magazine of Horror, and various anthologies. In 2006, my short story “Monsoon” was the first prize winner in the Best Fantastic Erotica contest, and was subsequently published in the anthology of the same name by Circlet Press. This being said, the majority of my work as a fiction author has been in the computer gaming industry. I have provided world-building and background fiction for several genre titles, including "Homeworld," "Homeworld: Cataclysm," "Ground Control," and "Arcanum." My most recent work has been for Kerberos Productions: I have done world-building and written the background fiction for the Sword of the Stars series and also for a horror title called "Fort Zombie". My first novel, The Deacon’s Tale, was set in the Sword of the Stars universe and published with the boxed Collector’s Edition of the game in 2008.

Writing Description:
I write science fiction, fantasy and horror in a variety of flexible formats; when working in a game medium, I specialize in building worlds that allow players to live their own version of the story. Regardless of the medium I'm working in, though, I always try to give the reader's imagination some room to stretch.
Writing Goals:
My goal is to write 1000 words a day during the 40 days of the Write-a-thon.
Fundraising Goals:
Please help me raise money for the Clarion West Writer's Workshop, and foster the growth of new artists in the genres that we all love.
