Excerpt:
Some say I’m the best witch hunter of the Second Prohibition. Maybe I am. I bagged and sent 18 bona fides to burn like Edison bulbs in Sing Sing. J. Edgar told my chief, in private, that me and my partner, Crossan were the best men in the Bureau. I’m at Communion 6:00 AM every goddamn morning. You could ring the church bells by me.But I’m a fraud, and proof positive that God isn’t Love. God is Irony.("Semele's Daughter," Broken Time Blues: Speculative Tales of the Roaring '20s)
Bio:
I'm a graduate of last year's Clarion West Writers Workshop. I grew up in Japan, Greece, and California, climb fake rocks for fun, and have two Dalek-loving children. I live in Orange County, California, and would like to remedy this in the near future. I spend way too much time on twitter.
Publications:
"Forbidden Feast at the Armageddon Cafe," Rigor Amortis, Absolute Xpress/Edge Publishing, 2010, and Pseudopod (forthcoming)"Semele's Daughter," Broken Time Blues: Speculative Tales of the Roaring '20s, Absolute Xpress/Edge Publishing (forthcoming in August 2011)"Traitors and Tyrants: A Wives of Erasmus Adventure,"a graphic novel illustrated by Galen Dara, Monsters and Mormons (forthcoming in Fall 2011)
Writing Description:
I seem to write a lot about religion, sex, and death. My style ranges from magic realism to dark fantasy to horror. Examples: I've written a love story about a mushroom reanimator, a steampunk tale set in Japan starring a graffiti-writing octopus, a flash piece about zombie foodies. I'm currently outlining a steampunk novel set in Japan, Bolivia, and a late-19th century North America that would not look very familiar to us.
Writing Goals:
I have some serious writing goals for the next six weeks: I will submit three stories to pro markets. I will complete the rewrite of a story about a Japanese necromancer-shaman girl. I will write the first draft of a near-future SF story. I will outline and write 15,000 words towards my steampunk novel. I will complete ten scripts for a webcomic (a collaboration with Galen Dara) about a modern-day, coffee-brewing Jesus.
Fundraising Goals:
Flash - If you donate $10 towards the Write-a-thon in my name, I'll send you a work-in-progress print from the Traitors and Tyrants webcomic signed by both me and the artist, Galen Dara.Short - If you donate $25, you get the Flash reward, plus I'll send you a signed copy of Rigor Amortis.Novel - If you donate $60 or more, you get the Flash and Short rewards, plus I'll send you a signed copy of either the Broken Time Blues anthology (which comes out in August) or the Monsters and Mormons anthology (which is scheduled for release in Fall/Winter 2011)If you donate but already have one of the reward items listed, I'll come up with a comparable substitute. Thank you in advance!
