Excerpt

There was no certain time of year for people to make pilgrimage to Mnevis. Every day of every month boats docked and carriages rolled and beasts of burden carried the pilgrims to the city along with everyone who had daily business there -- the traders and farmers and crafters who sustained the city with a full third of the Khemet's bounty.

So it was, during the waning season of flood in the fifth year of Meritaten that two women, one supporting the other, arrived at the first wall.

Bio

I'm an African-American writer from the class of 2003. I was born in Ohio, have lived in almost every region of the US, and now live in New York City. I once fancied myself a playwright, but now I concentrate on fiction.

Publications

My fiction has appeared in the Interfictions anthology, Farthing Magazine, Peridot Books, Abyss & Apex, and more. My bibliography is here: http://tempest.fluidartist.com/bibliography/

Writing Description

I used to think that I wrote fantasy and only fantasy. Yet the more I write and read, the more I understand that my teenage reading habits warped my idea of what fantasy and science fiction actually are. Sometimes I'll write a solidly genre story, but more often than not I'll write something too much off the map to have a proper genre boundary.

Goals

I'm currently writing a novel that consists of 12 interlinked stories. I'm going to write one story/chapter per week.

I'm raising money for both Clarion West and the Butler Scholarship again this year, and I'd like to raise $500 for each.
