Excerpt

This is the opening to Chapter 3 in the novel I'm working on, working title "For the Glory of Vol."

Dlaskidi knew how to do many things that were commonly believed to be impossible. She had convinced a Kranav merchant to cut his prices, just to be nice. She had told a Bishop of Rondath that blood was not an appropriate side dish for a state dinner, and lived to sample the revised menu. She had retrieved her husband’s body from the Tanakan front, head and limbs intact, and had it buried at the High Temple of Ansinar on the Street of Ten Thousand Gods in Vol -- without her employer, the Duke of Knarr, ever realizing she had left the city.

But the one thing she could not do was get her teenaged son Ensrelik to listen to a word she said.

Bio

In a former life, Phoebe Harris was a Clarion West graduate (1988), a CPA, and a sword-wielding father of two. In this life, surprisingly, she finds that very little has changed, though the swords are smaller now.

Writing Description

No matter how it starts, it always seems to end up as fantasy.

Goals

I am taking a break from my novel to work on a couple of novelettes. I would like to completely finish, and send out, the first one (titled "Chasing Mundanity") and to finish the first draft on the second (working title, which I hope to God changes, "Serving Girl"). While doing that, I would like to get at least a bit of writing done during five days out of every week.

For fundraising, the main thing I'm going to do is actually, you know, ask people for money. I hear that works wonders. As for what kind of response I get, well, I guess I'll find out who my real friends are, now won't I?
