Combatting Recent Forum Spam
Hi All,
the forums have been hit pretty hard recently by a combination of a ton of spam accounts being registered to the site as well as spam comments. We've been doing our best to keep clearing them out, but in the meantime, we're also implementing a couple measures to reduce the volume for now:
- For the time being, you will be prompted with a captcha before you can post a comment.
- Newly registered accounts must be approved by one of us working on the website before they can post (approvals will happen within 24 hours, though probably much, much more quickly).
- We're trying to be really careful about our spam account-purges, but there's a chance that a legitimate account may be purged. We can't undo that action, but you can shoot us an email if you have a problem registering or think you might've been deleted.
Sorry for the inconvenience folks - we're not sure if things are going to stay this way forever, but hopefully this will keep the forums both clear of spam and faster without the extra load of a 1000+ exta spam users.
